            The switch you suggested with a 2–4-day washout period is considered a moderate switch. There are several ways to switch antidepressants including conservative when the medication is taper with a washout period of 5 half-lives, the moderate switch with a taper and wash-out period of 2-4 days, direct switch with antidepressant stopped and the alternative started the next day and cross-taper when the medication is tapered with the new alternative started at the same time then, increased to the therapeutic dose (Watson, 2022). As you explained, I understand the concern when switching regarding minimizing drug interactions.  There will be situations that require different switching strategies.  Providers must be sure to carefully monitor during any switch to monitor for interactions and withdrawal symptoms. The information considered in this case is the patient was prescribed Prozac two weeks ago with reports of not even taking the medication, the patient reported side effects as a reason for discontinuation, patient preference, and history of noncompliance with a treatment plan. Patients should be explained the side effects but, should not be expected to tolerate them and feel pressured to continue if not tolerating (Elmer, 2022). This switch along with education on common side effects was completed with hopes to increase patient adherence.
