Discussion

Purpose

The purpose of this discussion is to begin the analysis of evidence collected for your evidence-based intervention literature synthesis. By comparing and contrasting an excerpt of your research synthesis and discussing it with student colleagues, you will examine the analysis process.(Comprehensive Literature Synthesis Essay for Nursing Students)

A suggestion for identifying themes in the research articles is to read the research results and discussion sections for each article. The authors will discuss elements (or themes) that influenced the outcome or results. For example, the research articles focused on diet and exercise in reducing obesity in elementary or middle-school age children.  In the results section of the articles, the researchers talked about school and family support being integral to the success of the intervention. Some other research articles focused on culturally accepted foods that contributed to a successful outcome for the same intervention.(Comprehensive Literature Synthesis Essay for Nursing Students)

PICOT

Comprehensive Literature Synthesis Essay for Nursing Students

For adults with a history of schizophrenia in the outpatient setting, does the implementation of technology with motivational interviewing, compared with current practice, impact medication nonadherence in 8-10 weeks?(Comprehensive Literature Synthesis Essay for Nursing Students)

  1. Examine the main themes in at least five (5) research articles demonstrating that your intervention effectively changes the practice problem and/or your outcome. (This research provides strong support for an effective intervention)

Five articles that demonstrate the efficacy of the chosen intervention, i.e., technology with motivational interviewing (MI) in improving medication adherence include Ertem & Duman (2019), Dobber et al. (2020), Harmacnci & Budak (2022), Inwanna et al. (2022), and Pupus et al. (2022). The main themes that emerged in Ertem & Duman (2019) include correct identification of psychotic features, disease awareness, and treatment adherence. In Dobber et al. (2020), a trusting relationship and empathy promote change, a core aspect of effective MI. Harmacnci & Budak (2022) identify MI techniques that promote adherence, psychological well-being, and hope. Inwanna et al. (2022) highlighted nurse-patient relationship, patient’s hesitation and treatment beliefs, cognitive abilities, involving family members to express their emotions, and educating patients on how to manage medication as crucial aspects of MI. Lastly, Pupus et al. (2022) identified MI adaptability to various settings.(Comprehensive Literature Synthesis Essay for Nursing Students)

  1. Explain why the intervention was selected. Cite at least five (5) research articles in your discussion.

MI was selected because of its adaptability to many different settings (Pupus et al., 2022). Moreover, MI has significantly impacted medication adherence (Ertem & Duman, 2018); Dobber et al., 2020; Pupus et al., 2022; Harmacnci & Budak, 2022; Inwanna et al. (2022). MI is also associated with various mental health outcomes that promote medication adherence, such as hope and mental well-being (Harmacnci & Budak, 2022). These aspects of MI suggest that the intervention is evidence-based and can help mitigate medication nonadherence among schizophrenia patients in an inpatient facility.(Comprehensive Literature Synthesis Essay for Nursing Students)
