The purpose of this reflective journal is self-reflection regarding the role in the process of self-reflection as a PMHNP provider. Through reflective practice, the student will evaluate their own emotional health and recognize one’s own feelings as well as one’s ability to monitor and manage those feelings. The point of the exercise is to learn yourself, your triggers, the types of cases you end up getting overly involved with, and those you’d rather refer to someone else. Clinical Journal Reflection Sample for Nursing Students-Solution

(Clinical Journal Reflection Sample for Nursing Students)

According to Galutira (2018), nursing reflections help students generate new knowledge and integrate theories that positively influence their practice. The journal reflections are an opportunity for me to look back at previous experiences in patient encounters to learn and perform better in the future. They are an opportunity for me to analyze, explore, and explain what happened with the primary goal of learning from past experiences and gaining valuable insights into nursing professional development, especially in forming therapeutic nurse-patient relationships in every encounter. My reflective practice and skills have improved tremendously throughout the reflective journey, from one entry to the next, particularly the ability to use academic language and incorporate appropriate emotions and feelings in every reflection. In the reflections, I have constructively criticized myself, events, and others, including patients, by thinking in depth from various perspectives. I have also improved in developing reflections that integrate case description, interpretation, and the outcome of each patient encounter, like what I learned from each experience and how I will use it to inform future encounters and make them much better.

Undoubtedly, the reflective exercises have influenced my nursing practice and education towards effective patient-centered professional practice. The reflections have also enhanced the development of appropriate clinical judgment and making personal sense from complex, rich, and confusing experiences and information, interactions, and other confronting ideas. Throughout the reflective journey, I have looked back in my numerous encounters with different types of patients, and every encounter was unique, special, and complex in its way. I have experienced countertransference and transference firsthand. Through the reflection, I managed to analyze positive forms of countertransference and transference that contribute and encourage genuine nursing care with a real interest in improving patient outcome and negative forms of countertransference and transference that affect appropriate care and ability to continue working with the patient. The experiences have helped generate new thoughts and ideas that make me more creative and innovative in making almost all encounters with the patient a positive learning experience, contributing to optimal clinical outcomes.
