WHO created the 10-item Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test (AUDIT) screening tool for primary healthcare settings to find dangerous, risky, or potentially dependent drinkers. The AUDIT has been extensively employed in many different contexts worldwide, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa (Seth et al., 2018). However, medical professionals frequently fail to test for alcohol-related problems due to time restrictions. The first three questions of the 10-item AUDIT make up the AUDIT-Consumption (AUDIT-C). AUDIT-C distinguishes between high-risk and low-risk drinkers (i.e., harmful, hazardous, or likely dependent) (Seth et al., 2018). The AUDIT’s first three questions, or the AUDIT-C, gauge how much and how frequently people drink. The frequency of issues with mental and physical health brought on by alcohol use is evaluated in the second section (Seth et al., 2018). AUDIT-C and the original AUDIT are comparable in various contexts and across diverse racial/ethnic groupings. The AUDIT-C is practically as accurate as the full AUDIT in identifying risky drinking practices and AUD risk. The AUDIT-C has some significant benefits over the complete AUDIT, including a shorter questionnaire and less intrusive questions.
