Chapter 2 discusses asking the “clinical questionâ€, using the PICOT format. Post an example of a clinical question using the PICOT format. Formulate your question from your clinical area of expertise or come up with a question from an area you are interested in studying. As part of the discussion cite other sources/references that utilize the PICOT format.

PICOT Clinical Question
Population = Adult Females ages 25-30 years
Intervention = Urinary Tract Infection
Comparison = Twice daily 3-day regime of Trimethoprim-Sulfamethoxazole DS compared to
twice daily 7-day regime of Doxycycline 100mg.
Outcome = Eradicating the organism that causes UTI.
Time = 3-10 days.
PICOT Clinical Question
In adult females ages 25-30 years with Urinary Tract Infections, how effective is a twice daily 3-day regime of Trimethoprim-Sulfamethoxazole DS compared to a twice daily 7-day regime of Doxycycline 100mg in eradicating the organism that causes UTI in 3-10 days?
