Summary of Results – Clark Healthy Workplace Inventory .(Workplace Environment)

From the Clark Healthy Workplace Inventory, I found the following results. First, the members of the organization have a shared vision and mission that is based on respect, trust, and collegiality. Second, while trust is pivotal for the organization’s operations, there is a clear and defined trust level among the senior leaders and their subordinates. Nonetheless, there is clear communication across all levels of leadership which translates to coordinated health delivery, improving the organization’s performance and patient satisfaction levels. Forth, most employees feel appreciated and valued within the organization, increasing employee satisfaction and retention rates. Fifth, members of the organization are actively engaged in the decision-making process, including policy developme(Workplace Environment). Sixth, employees are treated with respect and fairness regardless of their positions. Seventh, the organization members use effective conflict resolution skills to solve any disagreements responsibly and respectfully. Eighth, the organization promotes teamwork and collaboration, which focuses on the strengths of individuals to achieve better results. The organization members also conduct regular assessments to identify areas of improvement and take the necessary measures to improve performance. Lastly, there is freedom of expression where employees can share their diverse opinions and perspectives, which help decision-making.(Workplace Environment) However, there are several challenges in promoting a civil environment in our workplace. First, there is no effective mentoring program for all employees. The program is available to some employees, especially nurses, while support staff is not provided with the opportunities. Additionally, there is less emphasis on employee wellness and self-care, which may adversely affect the employees’ well-being. The organization has few opportunities for professional growth and development, limiting employee growth in their field of work and chances of promotion.

Nonetheless, there are instances where the workload is unmanageable, leading to employee burnout. This problem arises from nurse shortage and insufficient specialists, requiring existing employees to fill these positions. As a result, the employees work long-hour shifts, which causes fatigue and affects employee motivation. Although the organization provides competitive salaries and compensation for the long shifts, it is not effective in improving employee performance. In addition, the organization does not provide benefits, and career advancement opportunities are given to the formal staff leaving behind the support staff. These factors adversely impact retaining quality employees from these departments, disrupting the organization’s operations (Broome & Marshall, 2021). From this analysis, an average number of employees would recommend the organization as a great place to work for their family members and friends.

Identify two things that surprised you about the results. Also, identify one idea you believed before conducting the confirmed assessment..(Workplace Environment)

One of the things that surprised me about the results is that our organization is less concerned with the support staff, who also plays a crucial role in the delivery of patient care. Through observation, most healthcare providers’ employees feel that the organization has a healthy work environment, while those from other departments feel that their needs are not met appropriately. Second, I was surprised by how essential employee well-being is to productivity. Specifically, I was surprised that employees still had low satisfaction levels due to fatigue-related to long working hours and work overload, even with competitive salaries and competition. However, I believe that our organization effectively collaborates and collaborates by emphasizing the free expression of ideas, trust, respect, and an inclusive decision-making process. The results confirmed the same..(Workplace Environment)

What do the assessment results suggest about the health and civility of your workplace?.(Workplace Environment)

The results indicate that the workplace is civil but needs improvements. According to Clark et al. (2011), a healthy work environment is characterized by skilled communication, effective decision making, true collaboration, authentic leadership, appropriate staffing, and meaningful recognition. In this regard, our organization allows effective decision-making, collaboration, skilled communication, and authentic leadership. However, it lacks appropriate staffing and meaningful recognition, crucial in establishing a civil and healthy work environment..(Workplace Environment)

Briefly describe the theory or concept presented in the article(s) you selected..(Workplace Environment)

Explain how the theory or concept presented in the article(s) relates to the results of your Work Environment Assessment..(Workplace Environment)

Cognitive Rehearsal is an evidence-based technique where nurses practice how they can address workplace incivility in a non-threatening work environment with a skilled facilitator (Clark, 2019). This theory relates to the above findings as it highlights the approaches that employees can adopt to address incivility. In this regard, cognitive rehearsal focuses on safety when one is confronted with unprofessional behaviors. It allows nurses to prepare how they should react to threats in the organizations and curbs impulse actions when presented with unprofessional behavior. Additionally, the nurses can think about potential situations and the most appropriate responses to these situations. As a result, they can identify situations that threaten patient safety and create an opportunity to communicate expectations for appropriate behavior in future interactions..(Workplace Environment)

Explain how your organization could apply the theory highlighted in your selected article(s) to improve organizational health and create stronger work teams. Be specific and provide examples..(Workplace Environment)

Our organization can utilize cognitive rehearsal to improve communication. For instance, if a colleague seems like they are withholding information that may impact patient care delivery, a nurse may respond by asking for this information more politely, highlighting the importance of sharing the information as it affects the healthcare outcomes. As a result, nurses will communicate effectively, enhancing collaboration and improving future interactions..(Workplace Environment)

General Notes/Comments

Our organization has a significantly healthy and civil workplace environment. However, cognitive rehearsal combined with deliberate practice and evidence-based practice can help nurses enhance civility in the organization..(Workplace Environment)
