COMPREHENSIVE PRACTICUM EXPERIENCE PLAN ESSAY EXAMPLE FOR NURSING STUDENTS

(COMPREHENSIVE PRACTICUM EXPERIENCE PLAN ESSAY EXAMPLE FOR NURSING STUDENTS)

A practicum experience plan is vital in outlining learning objectives, activities, and exportations in line with the PRAC objectives for the course. Generally, practicum experience shapes transition into practice and enhances professional commitment among student nurses by allowing students to gain practical experience in their field of study (Liu et al., 2022). In this assignment, I outline my PEP, including contact information, learning objectives (including planned activities, mode of assessment, and related PRAC outcomes), nursing and counseling theories, and projected schedule. (COMPREHENSIVE PRACTICUM EXPERIENCE PLAN ESSAY EXAMPLE FOR NURSING STUDENTS)

Overview:

Your Practicum experience includes working in a clinical setting that will help you gain the knowledge and skills needed as an advanced practice nurse. In your practicum experience, you will develop a practicum plan that sets forth objectives to frame and guide your practicum experience.(COMPREHENSIVE PRACTICUM EXPERIENCE PLAN ESSAY EXAMPLE FOR NURSING STUDENTS)

As part of your Practicum Experience Plan, you will not only plan for your learning in your practicum experience but also work through various patient visits with focused notes as well as one (1) journal entry.(COMPREHENSIVE PRACTICUM EXPERIENCE PLAN ESSAY EXAMPLE FOR NURSING STUDENTS)

Part 2: Individualized Practicum Learning Objectives

Refer to the instructions in Week 2 to create individualized practicum learning objectives that meet the requirements for this course. These objectives should be aligned specifically with your Practicum experience. Your objectives should address your self-assessment of the skills found in the “PMHNP Clinical Skills Self-Assessment Form” you completed in Week 1. (COMPREHENSIVE PRACTICUM EXPERIENCE PLAN ESSAY EXAMPLE FOR NURSING STUDENTS)

As you develop your individualized practicum learning objective, write them using the SMART format. Use the resources found in Week 2 to guide your development. Once you review your resources, continue and complete the following. Note: Please ensure your objectives are connected to your self-assessment. Also, consider that you must demonstrate how you advance your clinical specialty knowledge.(COMPREHENSIVE PRACTICUM EXPERIENCE PLAN ESSAY EXAMPLE FOR NURSING STUDENTS)

** YOU MUST HAVE 3 NEW OBJECTIVES EACH QUARTER. You may include previous practicum objectives; however, you still must have 3 new objectives for your current course.

Objective 1: To improve my ability to perform and interpret functional assessments among patients.

Panned activities: To participate in functional assessments for at least 80 patients, including children and adults, during the quarter to expand my knowledge in psychiatric evaluations. Moreover, I plan to review existing psychiatric reports and cases from reputable sources on functional at least 4 hours a week.

Mode of Assessment – In-person and virtual functional assessment sessions and objective review of existing reports and cases.

PRAC Course Outcome(s) Addressed: Develop an ability to perform functional assessments, including patients’ occupational, educational, leisure, and activities of daily living.  (COMPREHENSIVE PRACTICUM EXPERIENCE PLAN ESSAY EXAMPLE FOR NURSING STUDENTS)

Objective 2: To improve my ability to select and apply relevant evidence-based practice (EBP) procedures for medical planning.

Panned activities: To evaluate various patient reports to determine which EBP procedures have been used successfully for which patients, review existing EBP clinical guidelines from the practicum site and university library, and participate in psychiatric evaluations.

Mode of Assessment – In-person and virtual assessment sessions and objective review of existing medical guidelines and reports.(COMPREHENSIVE PRACTICUM EXPERIENCE PLAN ESSAY EXAMPLE FOR NURSING STUDENTS)

PRAC Course Outcome(s) Addressed: Demonstrate the ability to select relevant EBP practice guidelines for medication planning considering clinical and non-clinical aspects such as symptom management, risks and benefits of interventions, patient’s developmental concerns, informed consent, and financial impacts.

Objective 3: To improve my ability to identify and apply age-appropriate counseling (psychotherapeutic) techniques for individuals, families, or caregivers.

Panned activities: To participate in counseling sessions for at least 80 patients, including children and adults, and consult with experienced personnel and precentor whenever necessary.(COMPREHENSIVE PRACTICUM EXPERIENCE PLAN ESSAY EXAMPLE FOR NURSING STUDENTS)

Mode of Assessment – In-person and virtual counseling sessions and consultation.

PRAC Course Outcome(s) Addressed: Demonstrate the ability to identify and apply age-relevant counseling techniques across different ages.(COMPREHENSIVE PRACTICUM EXPERIENCE PLAN ESSAY EXAMPLE FOR NURSING STUDENTS)

Nursing Theory

For my practicum experience, I will adopt the Grand theory, particularly Peplau’s interpersonal relationships theory, to enhance my understanding and relationship with patients. Peplau’s theory emphasizes the therapeutic alliance between the nurse and the patient and the nurse’s ability to understand the patient’s emotions and behavior and use this understanding to promote healing (Forchuk, 2021). Generally, grand theories are crucial in shaping healthcare concepts important in mental healthcare delivery, and nurses gain skills and knowledge vital to work effectively in their specialties.(COMPREHENSIVE PRACTICUM EXPERIENCE PLAN ESSAY EXAMPLE FOR NURSING STUDENTS)

Counseling Theory

For my practicum experience, I will adopt psychotherapy, particularly person-centered therapy (PCT). PCT emphasizes the importance of the therapeutic relationship between the therapist and the patient (Renger, 2021). PMHNPs can use PCT to create a supportive and empathetic environment for their patients, which can help promote healing and personal growth. Generally, psychotherapy theories provide a framework for interpreting patients’ feelings, thoughts, and behavior to help them cope with diagnosis and treatment.(COMPREHENSIVE PRACTICUM EXPERIENCE PLAN ESSAY EXAMPLE FOR NURSING STUDENTS)

Part 3: Projected Timeline/Schedule

Estimate how many hours you expect to work on your Practicum each week. *Note: All of your hours and activities must be supervised by your preceptor and completed onsite. Your preceptor will approve all hours, but both your Preceptor and Instructor will approve your activities. Any changes to this plan must be approved.

This timeline is intended as a planning tool; your actual schedule may differ from the projections you are making now.

I intend to complete the 144 or 160 Practicum hours (as applicable) according to the following timeline/schedule. I also understand that I must see at least 80 patients during my practicum experience. I understand I may not complete my practicum hours sooner than eight weeks. I understand I may not be in the Practicum setting longer than 8 hours per day unless pre-approved by my faculty.
