The client also suffered emotional abuse and will benefit from emotionally focused psycho-educational intervention (EFPEI) for elderly couples which is based on nine steps of emotionally focused therapy for couples (EFT-C)(Emotional Abuse Essay Example). The treatment of older couples who suffered emotional abuse behaviors is essential, and the EFPEI that is based on EFT-C is a good treatment for decreasing emotional abuse behaviors and improving married elderly couples’ marital satisfaction (Hazrati et al., 2017). Binge eating is common with obese individuals hence structured weight loss intervention that uses cognitive strategies will help control weight, eating-related distress, and depressive symptoms in this client (Ma et al., 2019). The client in the case study may benefit from Naltrexone/bupropion (Contrave/Mysimba), which is a combination of bupropion and Naltrexone and is FDA-approved for long-term weight loss (Tak et al., 2021)(Emotional Abuse Essay Example). The naltrexone/bupropion comes in 8 mg of Naltrexone and 90mg of bupropion. It is started at 1 tablet and increased to one tablet twice daily after the first week if tolerated and to two tablets twice daily in the fourth week. Bupropion is a reuptake inhibitor of dopamine and norepinephrine that promotes activation of the central melanocortin pathways and regulates mood. The mu-opioid receptor auto-inhibitory feedback loop on anorexigenic hypothalamic neurons activated by bupropion is decreased by Naltrexone, an opioid receptor antagonist, thereby allowing for sustained weight loss. Great post! Thank you for sharing your discussion. I support your claims that emotionally focused psycho-educational intervention (EFPEI) will address the patient’s emotional abuse. Emotional abuse entails an inappropriate psychological reaction to a person’s feelings and emotions, such as insults and verbal threats(Emotional Abuse Essay Example). As such, mental health professionals should conduct comprehensive assessments of elderly patients predisposed to abuse. Effective and timely case identification is the first step toward any elderly abuse intervention. Secondly, healthcare professionals should create an avenue for case identification. Subsequently, the providers should be ready to assist the patients upon abuse identification.
