Resistance Experienced So Far in the Practice Change Project

The project has experienced resistance due to the cost of implementation, with the leadership perceiving there are more important priorities in need of money. It has also experienced staff resistance regarding motivational interviewing. Some staff members believe the approach is ineffective in some cases involving patients with comorbid trauma and depression, and bipolar conditions. It also goes against the clinician’s natural tendency to fix issues because it encourages patients to solve their problems. Plan to Address the Resistance

To address these issues, I developed a comprehensive project proposal outlining the costs and benefits, which indicated how potential benefits would outweigh the costs. I also shared a comprehensive project plan, including the budgeting, schedule, milestones, and anticipated outcomes compelling to the organization’s leadership per Tappen et al. (2019). I engaged nurse managers and leaders, presenting the project proposal of how implementing MI would help improve patient outcomes to address staff resistance. Nurse managers and leaders helped convince staff engagement in the project. I also insisted that conducting the project is the best way to understand whether MI was effective in the specified circumstances staff members had concerns with. Lastly, I presented a comprehensive description of the need for training and why training was a critical success factor of the project per Nilsen et al. (2020). Current Intervention Status

The project implementation phase is progressing well as desired, and the practice change project and intervention are on track; hoping to complete implementation per the timeframe. Everything is aligned to meet the practice change plan, and follow-up is necessary. Additionally, all stakeholders play their part in helping actualize the intervention and achieve the project goals and objectives. Regarding implementing motivation interviewing among participants, the project is about 60% complete out of the 42 patients remaining from the initial 50 patients. Eight patients withdrew due to various reasons, including medical complications, family issues, and time constraints. Stakeholder Communication

Various stakeholder groups include the project team, nurse managers, CEO, CFO, Finance Director, patients, and external parties like patient families and financiers. The project team is communicated through weekly status meetings. The CEO, CFO, nurse managers and finance director are transmitted through a steering committee review conducted every two weeks. After every review, the steering committee provides advice on the way forward. Patients are communicated through weekly status meetings to offer information about the project’s milestones and deliverables and any updates. External stakeholders are communicated through team update calls bi-weekly to ensure a high-level involvement of all stakeholders.
