Week 4High-Fidelity Simulation PowerPoint Assignment
Assignment
Purpose
The purpose of this assignment is to develop a PowerPoint presentation evaluating an existing high-fidelity simulation scenario to demonstrate your understanding of design, learner-centric power dynamic, outcomes, pre-brief, and post-simulation debrief.
Instructions
Select a clinical topic of your choice and design a clinical simulation that includes the following:
- Learner outcomes
- Simulation design & rationale
- Simulation pre-briefing
- Simulation activity
- Post-simulation debrief
Design a PowerPoint presentation using one of the simulation scenarios found in the literature, such as at Chamberlain Library or at the following site: Nursing Simulation Scenario (Links to an external site.).
Use slide notes to provide assignment content. Narration is not required.
Important
It is important to understand you are not writing a simulation scenario, but rather you will select an existing simulation scenario and describe the steps to selecting a scenario (design), pre-briefing activities, implementing the scenario, post-debrief activities, and steps for remediation if needed.
The PowerPoint Presentation will include the following slides with slide notes:
- Title of Presentation (1 slide)
- Title of the assignment
- Student name
- Chamberlain University College of Nursing
- Course number and course name
- Session month and year
- Content slides that address the following (6-8 slides):
- Clinical Topic Slide(s)
- State and discuss the clinical topic.
- Explain the simulation design and the rationale for selection of the design.
- Explain the main influences and ideas on high-fidelity simulation.
- Power Dynamic Slide(s)
- Explain the Learner-centric power dynamic and how the learner is in control of the learning.
- Explain the role of the nurse educator to facilitate learning.
- Learning Activity Outcomes Slide(s)
- State the outcomes of the learning activity.
- Explain how the outcomes were developed.
- Simulation Activity Slide(s)
- Identify simulation set-up needs.
- Compose a high-level summary of the simulation steps or activities for the learner.
- Pre-brief Activity Slide(s)
- Explain the purpose of the pre-brief activities.
- Summarize the pre-brief activities.
- Post-debrief Activity Slide(s)
- Describe the purpose of the post-debrief activities.
- Summarize the post-debrief activities.
- Remediation Slide(s)
- Explain remediation in the context of simulation.
- Discuss the process for remediation for this simulation learning experience.
- Clinical Topic Slide(s)
- Conclusion (1 slide)
- Summarize the main influences and ideas on high-fidelity simulation.
- Summarize how you will design and implement the simulation.
- Summarize how you will evaluate the simulation impact on learner.
- References (1-2 slides)
- Create a separate reference slide(s).
- Ensure each reference has a matching citation.
- Support your position and the role of the nurse educator as the facilitator of learning by using evidence from at least three (3) scholarly, peer-reviewed journal sources (preferably research or systematic reviews) that are retrieved from the Chamberlain library databases.
Presentation Requirements
- Length: 10-12 slides (not including title slide or references slide)
- Title slide (same information as would be on the title page of a paper)
- Concise slides with limited bullet points and text:
- No more than 5-6 bullet points per slide
- No more than 5-6 words per bullet
- Content broken into bullet points rather than paragraphs
- Speaker notes for the main content that supports each slide
- Consistent color schemes and font style and size on each slide
- 24-30 font size
- No neon or warm colors (yellows, reds, oranges)
- In-text citations for any quote, paraphrase, image, graph, table, or data used in presentation
- Headings on each slide
- References slide with references in APA format
- Standard English usage and mechanics
- Organized presentation of ideas
Course Outcomes
This assignment enables the student to meet the following course outcomes:
- Apply evidence-based assessment practices to evaluate learner goals and learning outcomes. (POs 1, 3, 5, 6)
- Differentiate clinical and academic settings when designing assessment and evaluation strategies. (POs 5, 6, 7)
- Appraise the role of the nurse educator in systematic evaluation and accreditation. (PO 9)
Due Date
- By 11:59 p.m. MT on Sunday
- Late Assignment Policy applies
